Pyramids Release

Out at last!

This was one of the more challenging books for me to write, just because when you start with an alt history of _our_ world you suddenly find yourself with the problem of how complex our world is. So many countries, so many different peoples, so many stories.

It amazed me, doing the research for this book, how much I didn't know about my own world. A million layers of civilisation, most forgotten, or half-remembered, or barely understood. I've read and seen stories about Egyptians all my life, but until I started properly reading about it, I didn't know what mummies were actually _for_. [And even the most knowledgeable Egyptologist can only have an imperfect understanding of a culture lost to sand.] So, anyway, alt history=HARD.

The story itself is going to sit across a dozen genres. Alt history, because I started with Earth. It's steampunk because dirigibles, but it's certainly not Victorian. It's going to read YA or even middle grade to some people, but one of its protagonists is thirty-six. It's science fiction (apparently that's where steampunk sits) and it does amuse itself with a technological impact, but it is, of all my books, the most full of the numinous, the strange and wondrous things that fantasy uses to catch your breath and then turn it to dragons.

There are quite a few dragons.

Anyway, this is a big venture for me - the first time I've embarked on a long series (five books, plus probably some shorts). I hope you all enjoy it!

  1. Congratulations, I can't wait to read it. Do you mind sharing if any of the purchasing options works out better for you? I.e., do some of them pass along a larger percentage of the sale?

    1. I encourage people to buy through whatever venue works best for them. :)

All of them have different advantages for me - my sales presence increases marginally on the store you buy through and that can be a better thing than the actual breakdown amount. Eg. technically Smashwords gives me the most money, but Smashwords doesn't have much in the way of sales rank. High sales rank on Amazon or, say, Apple, gains me much more visibility than Smashwords.

  2. Hi Andrea, really excited that you have a new book out but I can't find any links to purchase hard copy - is this an e-book only?

  5. Kobo is (as of 3/2) saying this volume is unavailable for purchase in the US. Which is very odd since it had been available yesterday. I'll be pestering them, but I figured you'd want to know so you could track this, too.

    1. It's probably because I updated the epub. Hopefully it will right itself soon.

  6. Loved it! Dang it --now I have to work on being patient for the next book again...
Any hints on what it will be called and when it might become available?

    1. The next Trifold book is called "Tangleways" (no prizes for guessing the setting!) and will hopefully be released early next year - although I am writing a couple of shortish stories about their visit to France right now, and hope to have that out in a couple of months. [And The Sleeping Life is due out at the end of the year. Somehow.]

  7. Andrea, you are amazing! I purchased Pyramids as soon as it was published and waited to read it knowing that I would need time to both devour and enjoy it. I just finished it and it was perfect! It was a great blend of introducing what's bound to be a long and developing story line and also a complicated and satisfying mystery. Please keep doing what you're doing. It's so clear that every book is a monumental effort of passion for what you do and sheer dedication. If you ever have a book tour in the states, please let us know! You are one of my definite favorite all time authors.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed it -j-!

No book tours planned any time soon, I'm afraid, but I will definitely announce one if I happen to be doing one.
